MUSES: Alysha

Q&A with Alysha de Ruyter, singer & songwriter

As an artist, I know that rest keeps me well.

What are you doing in the current season of your life?

I’m primarily performing live music with my brother as 'Alysha and Andre de'. In between, I work part-time for my mum's business, GrannyFlat Rental, and I’m also releasing my own music.

Do you have any mindful practices you return to, seasonally or daily?

I’m not much of a routine person, but I’ve been trying to practise meditation and yoga daily to enhance my well-being.

What’s on your Spotify list?

Lately, I’ve been listening to dreamy music, with folk-inspired acoustic sounds layered under spacey synths.

What’s your list of food cravings?

Simple tomato pasta is my go-to. I’m still working on stopping when I’m full though!

Any books or podcasts you’d recommend?

I’m currently reading Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself by Dr Joe Dispenza. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to gain more control over their personality and future.

Do you like crystals? Which ones are you drawn to?

I usually go for blue crystals (got to keep my throat chakra open as a singer), but lately, my moonstone necklace has been grounding. I can really feel the love it was made with by you, and the sentiment of it being a gift from my mum.

What keeps you well?

Rest! I believe in always learning and striving for something better, but we’re healthiest when we balance that with things that help us stay calm.

What are you looking forward to this year?

This is my first year not studying, so I’m excited to learn on my own terms, without the pressure of deadlines.
