MUSES: Gonia

Q&A with Gonia Chylinska, interior designer, artist, mother

I believe in crafting connected and intuitive spaces.

Alex: Hey Gonia, I love your art for the spaciousness it creates and how it allows the mind to wander. Can you share a bit about yourself and the current season of life you're in?

Gonia: I’m originally from Warsaw, Poland. In my mid-20s, I lived in London, where I met my Australian partner. We moved to Sydney in 2008, and after starting our family, we relocated to the South Coast of NSW, where I now run my own interior design studio.

Any mindful practices you return to, seasonally or daily?

Painting is my passion and my favourite mindfulness practice. I try to paint once a week if time allows. As for daily rituals, I enjoy yoga nidra.

What’s currently on your Spotify list?

Gang of Youths, Lana Del Rey, and Angus & Julia Stone.

Any favourite foods?

When I go out, I love Asian fusion. At home, my kids’ favourite is still spaghetti bolognese.

Any books or podcasts you'd recommend?

Any book by Liane Moriarty. Lately, I've been listening to podcasts on design and architecture like Est Living and This Much I Know.

Do you like crystals? If so, which ones are you drawn to?

I’ve always been drawn to moonstone (I love my moonstone choker by Yasashi!) for its soft, milky appearance and soothing feminine energy.

Your best beauty and movement tips for women?

Beauty: Buccal massage.
Movement: Reformer Pilates.

What keeps you sane and thriving?

Art and painting, without a doubt. They slow my mind and body, helping me find balance and inner stability.

Favourite quote (about art or design)?

"Buy good, buy once."

What are you looking forward to this year?

My goal this year was to have one of my interior design projects published in a magazine, and that’s just happened! I’m also excited to be part of the Thirroul Arts Festival for the first time at the end of May.
